This Earth does have its troubles—
Some we could fix, and some we must surely endure.
And sometimes we err in trying to endure what should be fixed,
Or in trying to fix what must be endured.
It’s our own call, and we swim at our own risk, it seems—
Figuring out later (or not!) when we mess up.
And I should point out that many assume
That something has gone wrong with this world,
That there should be so much in need of fixing and enduring—
As if something were off by design or by tragedy.
But I wonder if it’s not built this way on purpose—
To test us and to show what kind of people we are,
And to give us a chance to learn better, should we choose that.
And even if that is not by design, it is certainly the way it’s worked out.
And that brings us to the the real question I wanted to talk about:
Whether our own faults are to be fixed or to be endured.
So much hangs on how a person answers that,
As if this question itself were the main test.
And God himself takes an interest in it what we each decide.
