When someone makes an error on Facebook,
He might be a highly-moral-and-intelligent person
Who has simply made an error―
And who will not only gladly thank you
For bringing it to his attention,
But also correct it forthrightly
And avoid making it again―
Or it might be an idiot who will
Not only resent the correction,
But defend the error, and even
Turn the tables on you with his
Grandstanding and gaslighting
And whatever other tricks
He may have up his sleeve.
And this is the risk you run:
Helping a good person,
Or getting tangled up with a corrupted one.
And I see where many have opted
To stay quiet altogether,
For fear of the corrupt people,
But this, too, is a morally-deficient choice,
As it is lacking in love for the good guys,
And leaves them hanging instead of helping them―
Not to mention that many a bad guy
Has been moved over the centuries
By the fact that someone would dare
To get involved.
So I don’t see any way of avoiding the risk
Without deciding not to love―
Deciding not to help―
Unless you know for sure already
That the soul in error is a corrupted one.
And I don’t think it’s fair to assume that
The one in error is corrupt
Based on a single erroneous post or comment.
I think we owe it to people to get involved,
Rather than to pass by on the other side,
As did the priest and the Levite.
