I could say that it’s just business
Between you and me—
That I corrected you
In good faith,
And you didn’t take it very well.
I could frame it all merely as
An unfortunate turn of events,
And give you the benefit of the doubt—
Perhaps, that you were just having a bad day,
Or that you’ve simply fallen victim
To misinformation.
And I could think myself
The better man,
And hope that,
In time,
You’ll come around.
But if I’m to be honest
With myself,
I’m not so sure
It’s always just business.
For sometimes,
My heart decides
On it’s own,
That it’s personal.
And it hurts me,
Even when I think
It should not.
