It’s getting so old
That it’s almost not funny anymore—
That error by which we take Him literally
When He was speaking figuratively,
Or vice versa—
And then insist on our faulty interpretation
As the gospel truth—
As if we could not possibly be wrong in the matter,
And as if only the infidel would even
Consider such a thing.
