Evangelism has become the idol
Of much of the modern “church”
As they shove Jesus out the door
To make more room for new members.
They don’t say it out loud very often,
But I’m pretty sure that they expect that
He will come back later, some glorious day
To congratulate them for their diligence.
And I wonder whether they expect him
To usher them into a Heavenly Temple
At which he also waits outside, so that
They can do as they please there, too.
