The vainglory of teaching has allured so many
Who don’t yet understand the subject matter.
They go on and on about things
They have never vetted—and never will vet—
For they have already got what they wanted—
To stand in the place of honor.
And with that, we could turn our attention
To the question of what kind of person
Finds it honorable to be an ignorant teacher.
But let us instead extol those few
For whom the glory is in
The finding out of the truth in all matters.
They are the ones who can really
Make people better,
Where the others make people vain.
