To say thank you, for some, is obligatory. And in the culture of some, it’s mandatory.
For some, it’s a hassle, and for others, a vain tradition. And for some, it’s an afterthought, at best—if it’s even a thought at all. And there are those, of course, who are simply not thankful, even when they probably should be.
But for some, to say thank you is a joy. When they say it, they’re expressing their love for their fellow man. And it’s a token of the fact that, in their minds, they do owe you something for your help or your kindness. And it’s a roundabout expression of their hope that good will can continue in the future. In short, when they say thank you, that’s them enjoying the present episode in their lives, and hoping for others like it.
For them, gratitude is a way of life.
