It is a pernicious mistake
By which the one
Wrongly assumes the blame
For the faults of the other.
And despite the wrongness of it,
Some even revel in the blame—
Perhaps either thinking it valiant
To spare the guilty party
The sting of the (life-giving) truth,
Or to steal that guilt
So that they can
Beat themselves with it
For sins of their own
That they deem as yet
Improperly punished.
And the way I see it,
It is unjust either way.
