It was their first date
And she could see how he cared
About who she was
By the fact that he
Had a thousand questions
And strove to understand her life.
And it was then that it clicked—
How the other guy last week
Had had no such questions at all,
And could not possibly have been
In love with her, even though
He had asked her out.
And then it clicked that
This poem isn’t about dating at all
But about Christianity
And whether a person
Is exploding with questions
About the things of God,
Or whether his ulterior motives
Are betrayed by his empty incuriosity.
