He Reposes in Humor

He reposes in humor
As if on a kind sabbatical
From weightier matters
In deference to the sensibilities
Of a fragile world
Who can at present
Handle nothing more.

But when in private
He waxes serious
His conclusions belie
A poor aptitude for import
And one discovers
More accurately to whose sake
The man defers.
