“Because He’s Black”

I witness a lot of people defending Obama’s various positions by use of the argument that those who oppose those positions aren’t really bringing meritorious arguments to the table, but are simply arguing against Obama “because he’s black”.

Interestingly, I also see a lot of people SUPPORTING Obama’s various positions, not because they have painstakingly vetted those positions and proven them to be meritorious, but merely “because he’s black”.

How interesting that the MERITS of an argument just don’t seem to matter when they can be trumped by “the race card”.  Are we really this stupid as a society?  (Yes, we are.)

Sure, there are some prejudiced idiots who hate Obama “because he’s black”, just as there are some prejudiced idiots who love Obama “because he’s black”.  Both sets are idiots—as if being black necessarily proves or disproves the merits of anything the man does.  Indeed, those who are Obama fans should be grateful to a great many whites in this country who voted for Obama “because he’s black”.  He simply could not have won without a LOT of white voters backing him.  This is not a matter of opinion, but of simple mathematics.

I wish I had reliable statistics, but I can guarantee you that some appreciable number of white voters fancied the idea of NOT being racist, and were quite willing for America to step in the direction of having a black president.  Too bad that they picked such a poor one, though.  Now that the honeymoon is over and America is generally unimpressed with Obama (including many of those who voted for him), I suppose we can at least say “Been there, done that”.  And for those ignorant people who want to pretend that race is everything (either in a good or a bad way), Obama’s failed presidency will either be proof positive that black people ought not be presidents, or it will be lauded as wonderful in spite of the facts, which will only serve to make those fans look like irrational idiots.

The reason this kind of bickering is constantly playing in the press is, I’m convinced, that they want to stir up division.  Never mind that it is logically fallacious and morally irresponsible bickering; it sells soap powder.  And more fundamentally, for those who OWN the media and use it for sinister purposes, it provides a colossal distraction to matters that might actually get solved in a nation of higher aggregate character.  (People profit from our problems remaining unsolved, mind you.)

Isn’t it interesting, by the way, that this “because he’s black” argument is only used against certain people, and only “because they’re white”?  When black people criticize Obama, whatever means shall we use to shout them down?  Perhaps we can accuse them of being a “wanna be”, or of “selling out”?

Yes, those will work.  After all, it’s not like such arguments are floated to impress persuade a RATIONAL crowd.  No, it’s like the old saying, “Any port in a storm.”

What a stupid, stupid nation, ours.  What base behavior.

Don’t tell the ignorant race-carders, but I can dislike a bad political policy no matter the color of the one promoting it.  And if you don’t believe it, just wait until the stupid public elects Romney and I get to write about his misdeeds in office.
