I have done my best
To make the difference
I had hoped to make.
I did not succeed as I had hoped,
And not enough to justify going on,
But I have most certainly found out
What time it is.
And now I know things that many others may never know,
Including the pain of trying to help the prickly
And the joy of knowing those who were ready to be loved.
