Perhaps, at no particular hour
It might strike a man
That he has a mind
That is capable of good work,
And that good work
Might be worth the effort.
And, perhaps, he might
Take a notion
To explore the possibilities—
And become quite skilled
And accomplished at it.
Or perhaps not.
And it all seems just
That arbitrary—
Who chooses to do well
At any given time,
And who does not.
And I don’t think I’m exaggerating
About that.
And we’ll find out later,
Perhaps, without a doubt,
Whether it was worth it
Or not—
Though some seem to be
Reporting a strong
Return on investment
Already,
Even in uncertain times.
