We all know that procrastination is bad—
Having been bitten by it ourselves
A hundred thousand times
In various ways.
But it strikes me that we don’t realize
That we were born into
A deep heritage of procrastination—
Into a culture that’s steeped in it.
It is, I believe, our default setting—
Our standard response to nearly everything.
And rather than to go on and on
With proofs and expositions
About this observation,
I think it better at the moment,
Simply to bid you to reflect upon it yourself,
To see whether you already
Have enough information from which
To determine honestly, rationally, and responsibly
That I am right about this—
You know—
Whenever you get around to it.
