Some people choose to love,
Even though love sometimes hurts.
Go figure!
What must they see in love
To think it worth the pain,
While others run like crazy
To avoid it?
But love is not the only thing that can hurt.
So can knowledge and wisdom—
For when you have learned
How things are supposed to go,
You experience anger and pain
At the folly of what goes on
In this dull world.
And many run from this
As many run from love.
And some are half-champions,
Having yielded themselves
To the pain of the one,
Yet still running from the pain of the other,
As if they had not really learned the lesson
That pain is not necessarily a bad thing.
