The Winter Fog

Southbound, just North of the Missouri River at the Upper Missouri Breaks in Montana, Highway 191.

The winter fog has laid
Its carpet of diamonds
On the old snow,
In time for the sun’s inspection.

And being on my way
At the right time in that place,
I saw the wonder of it all,
And it bade me stop and see.

And I am the better
For having done it.

A close-up shot with my (poor) camera struggles to capture some of the sparkling.
Thanks to my Aunt Gail for lightening one of my close-up shots! The ice crystals were roughly 1/4″ to 1/2″ across. They look a bit like corn flakes.
Here you can see more of the sparkles. Imagine these sweep across the landscape as you’re traveling at 70 miles per hour, with thousands or millions of sparkles hitting the eye both left and right along the highway!
