It’s pretty simple, really.
Here’s how it works.
If a guy truly loves
Truth, justice, righteousness, goodness,
Honor, wisdom, and love—
And if you should show him his fault
In any of these things,
Or the like—
Then he will correct himself.
Period.
If he does not,
Then he has either gotten snagged
And needs help dealing with the details,
And he does not really love these things.
And the older I get,
The clearer this is.
And also, the older I get,
The more people I find
Trying to make excuses for the guy—
Even in the name of Jesus.
They say it’s wrong to “judge”,
Not realizing that Jesus himself
Called on people to
“Make a right judgment”.
Nor do they realize that,
In giving this bad apple
The benefit of the doubt,
They are blurring the lines of godliness
For everyone else.
The inauthentic guy is showing you
By his very actions
What he loves and doesn’t love.
And none other than Jesus himself
Shows it’s right to “judge a tree by its fruit”.
Imagine a world, then—
Or even a congregation—
In which he were obeyed!
