If There’s a Real Revival Going On

There’s a lot of talk about whatever’s going on at Asbury these days. And I haven’t followed the story enough to have formed any opinion. I do note, however, that—quite predictably—there seem to be a lot of people who want to believe in it, and a lot who do not.

If it’s from God, however, here are a few things we could expect to see from those being “revived”:

  • Repentence from sins.
  • Longing for true godliness, and longing to see justice done.
  • Dissatisfaction with lukewarm fellowships and morally-compromised institutions.
  • Doctrinal reform (as needed to comport to the actual teachings of scripture).

I’m sure this is not a complete list, but it’s certainly enough to distinguish the kinds of “revivals” we see in Bible times from so much of what is called “revival” today.

So we shall see in time what goes at Asbury.

But I do have this question: What power is one going to find at Asbury that he cannot get by reading, studying, and following the Bible in his own town?
