Perhaps today is the day
When some soul on this Earth
Decides he wants to know—
And not just about a thing,
But about it all.
Perhaps today is the day
When someone decides
That hearsay and assumption
And guessing and gambling
Are insufficient substitutes
For getting on with the real business
Of rolling up one’s sleeves
And finding out what may be found out.
Perhaps today is the day
When he slips away from the masses
Into that philosophic world of wisdom,
Where they can still see him,
But cannot for the life of them
Understand what’s got hold of him.
Perhaps today is the day
When he begins to peer
Under the veil and into that world
That is the point of this one.
