He asked them whether he had
Become their enemy by telling them the truth,
And I don’t know if I’ve ever heard
A bombshell of a question packed
With more implications than that.
And all these centuries later,
There are still but few who understand
What all he understood—
That amazingly-smart man,
On fire inside.
This is a reference to the conversation between the apostle Paul and the congregation of Galatian Christians, in which the Galatians, having previously been highly devoted to Paul, had become offended by his corrections. See particularly verse 16.
