It is a puzzling irony of this world—Filled with the various human passions—That even the holiest of themShould ever have to be set aside For the mundane necessities of life.

Who has got the senseTo wonder about a thing,And to count that wonderingA good use of his time?

Regarding the candidates,The one has no sins,And the other has no virtues!

I can appreciateThat you have missed my point—And especially,Since you have worked So very hard to do it. Quite obviously,You care very deeplyAbout not seeingWhat I see.

Is there nothing from the pastThat’s worth saving? Nothing worth defendingOr preservingOr valuing?

I suppose I have learnedThe beginning of wisdom—If I am not overestimating myself—But it is now quite apparent to meThat I will not see the end of itIn this life.

So far in this crazy world—In all that has happenedSince the beginning—Not one bit of itHas been impossible.
