One thing you should understand about
How humans handle fact and logic
Is that there are practical considerations
That are more important to many
Than are fact and logic.

You may not want to believe this about people,
But many want to know first how some
New information might make them feel
And whether it will upset their friends
And their habits and traditions
And their established belief structures—
And whether it will require much
Mental exertion to accept it.

And if all those priorities seem
Unthreatened enough,
Then they generally don’t mind
Believing the new information

And this explains, best I can tell,
Why this world operates as it does.

Truth is simply not the priority of the masses.
