Put God in Front of a Man

Put God in front of a man,
In his measureless splendor
And in the vastness of his wisdom
With his higher thoughts and ways—

And show the man the treasures
Of God’s precepts written as they are
In those ancient books
That cannot be exhausted in a lifetime—

And see whether that man will
Make true worship of God
And his Way and his Precepts,
And become a true enemy of evil,
Or whether he will choose instead
To worship the “we” of his own imperfect camp,
And to set himself against the evils
Of the other imperfect camps.

To many, camp is more appealing than God himself,
And they have missed the Way,
Even as they declare that they have not.
Yet the camp remains incorrigible
And unpersuaded by the particulars of God.
