Gone the way of the hoe and the loom
Is the skill of searching for information.
The modern thinks he needs but to ask
And it will be delivered to him—
As are his food and his clothes.
He’ll gladly take it second-hand,
And count it nothing that he
Puts off the burden onto someone else
To do his reading—and thinking—for him.
And surely, someone will tell me
“It has always been thus.”
And surely this is true, but it is now
Much worse than in my childhood
Before the Internet began to cater
To the laziness of man.
