My wife tells me—
And I’m inclined to believe it—
That I have strong traits of both
Introversion and extroversion—
That I have the deep inward life
Of the introvert—drawing energy from reflection—
And the rich outward life of the extrovert—
Drawing energy from sharing
My inward life with others.
And this—
She observes—
Becomes a curse
When others are not
As interested in the hearing
As I am in the telling and discussing.
And they are generally not.
And all this makes me wonder what is
The place of someone like me in this world—
Just as I wonder at the place of those
Who’d rather keep to themselves
And of those who would rather not.
